Who are you?
Jyrki Sinisalo
TeM Lighting Designer/Light Artist
My current work as an artist is mainly at the interface between visual and light art. I am also involved in a few consumer-related projects.
How and why did you get into the AV sector?
I have made my living in the theatre industry all my life. In the 80s I went to work as a theatre technician at the Green Apple Puppet Theatre. The position was supposed to last a year, but the work got into my blood, I was there for just under 20 years. In August 2000, I moved to the present Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. I ended up developing training in performance technology. I moved from a lecturer in performance technology to a freelance artist a couple of years ago.
Tell us something about your job and what you love about it?
The dialogue between art and technology is just so wonderful. The union of these two different actors continues to produce new and new possibilities for the pleasure of the viewer and the experience.
What current issue in AV is inspiring you right now?
Digitalisation and its opportunities, and the sense of community that comes with it, which can help solve the toughest problems when needed.
What do you expect from the next fair?
The programme is a real cornucopia, but with 2 points:
1. Is there a cure for work-related fatigue in the AV sector other than prevention?
Janne’s thesis tackles a difficult topic that affects the whole field
2. Streaming for Dummies
Ahti is a guru in his field!
Thank you Jyrki! See you at the fair!
